Its your OWN choice , [D]iscouraging or [E]ncouraging?

Hmmm...how should i start ? i've just read the post from liyin, hui yi and joey. Maybe some of you think that what they've post is harsh , but i think that THEY are concern enough to pick out the IMPORTANT POINTS of what you all NEVER DO after listening to faith hundreds of time.
The reason why:

-LOOKING everywhere except faith(eg: 'busy' staring at the key holes in clarinet) "Whats there to stare about? Are there any worms coming out of the key holes? o.0"

-Treat what faith said as GARBAGE, ended up in garbage in, garbage out [go in left ear,come out right ear vice versa]"Woah ,your ear can do so much work ah? why let your ear work so hard
that even one word of advice cannot even be swallow into your brain?"=.=

-TALK and TALK and MORE TALKs "Are you all the aunties aka san gu liu po aka busybody at
the market?"

-NEVER PRACTICE at home (eg: no time to practice, must STUDY or not feeling well)"IS there
so much work to do that you cant even practice for at least 15mins?"

-Shaking your legs , scratching your ear or head, laugh for no reasons "Look its not like the
the heaven is collapsing or what, why you laugh for no reason is either just come out of IMH
or got mental problems"

-Lack of CONCENTRATION during sectional "Hello instead of concentrating ,you go and think about boyfriend o.0 or daydreaming about your prince charming , something is wrong man!"

-Busy SMSing "is it the latest news about your favourite artist? or later want to go shop shop?"
crazy le la!!

-And many other STUPID THINGS that you cant imagine"What is it ? that i dont know you
should know it well yourselves"

On my opinion, they are encouraging us, they've just stated the facts ,i totally agree with them.they have a purpose for doing so! ITS TO PUSH US TO OUR EXTREME AND UPGRADE OURSELVES. [if some of you think this is too harsh then what is the use of creating this blog?!]
During sectionals what you all do is talk about ANYTHING that is OUT of the BAND.Some of you can even waste time saying things that is NONE of our CONCERN in the pieces Just now after the exchange the majors are talking about sec 4s de last time le BUT some of YOU can say still Got SEC 5s with us nevermind! Does this mean that when the Sec 5s leave then you all can start GETTING MATURE, SERIOUS , PRACTICE well if this is the way of you thinking , you are the one going to face the consequences NOT US! After much saying i also hope that you all can do much thinking and MUCH PRACTICE its either you AGREE OR NOT. MOTIVATING OR DEMORALIZING , ENCOURAGING OR DISCOURAGING? AND THINK CAREFULLY WHETHER YOU HAVE THE SAME CONCERN AS US!! YOU DECIDE YOUSELVES, ITS YOUR OWN CHOICE!

He warns

Mr Lee warned that if you, Sec 2s, don't memorise and play well both songs on next Friday, you'll get scolding. And he's going to tell Mr Lim about it lah.

You don't want this to happen right? If you still haven't memorise the scores fully, which means you still don't know some notes, its okay but go and work on it (: For those who totally never memorise both scores and keep looking at others' fingerings, reflect on what you have wasted your time on rather than memorise scores.

Memorising every single note isn't enough.

Sometimes when you forget some notes, just put yourself into the song and your fingers will automatically know where to go! :D It's natural!

Like what Mr Benny Goh said: during the SYF day, don't be afraid what school is in front of behind you, be it RI or RGS. For example the school in front of us is a Gold with Honours band, the judges will "erase" what they've played and listen to us, so as to be fair! (:

Don't worry about little things because your attention span will get shorter and shorter!

Focus on Mr Lim!

OKAY. MY TURN?

NO OFFENCE TO SEC TWOS, BUT YOU MUST REALLY REALLY WORK HARDDDD!

Imagine if the juniors overtake you, how would you feel? isnt it disgraceful? so PLEASE WORK HARD!
STOP TALKING! If you spent a few mins talking bout unrelated band stuffs, you had just wasted a few mins of pratice time. No matter its sectionals, or combined, just endured your chattings till end of band, and not talking in squads when we fall in to dismiss also. you are dragging your own time if you all think carefully. Because the majors had to wait for you all to settle down.

Okay, maybe you all think that they could just shout 'BAND ATTENTION' but does BAND ATTENTION WORKS NOW? We all had to 'shh' each other to keep the band quiet. All has changed.
Please listen to what the majors or section leaders had told you to do. AND ONE MAJOR PROBLEM IN OUR SECTION, IS WE ALL JUST CANT STOP TALKING/PLAYING. Whenever Faith stopped and explain stuffs to us, please CONCENTRATE ON WHAT SHE'S SAYING.

Everything is up to every SINGLE ONE OF YOU.
For people who dont BOTHER to read this, im gonna print out all the stuffs that we all wrote, and read to all of you tomorrow.

Not I want to say ah...

This post is specially "written" for Sec 2s.

I can see improvement in you but some of you don't treat this serious enough. Some of you are still hiding behind seniors but think, you can't hide behind us forever. You must learn, practice and your skills must surpass us so that you can bring our juniors, as well as the band, to a higher level :D

Not I wanna poke on some of you. 1 year in the band already, must learn how to COUNT properly. When your fingers rush through semiquavers, relax yourself and install Mr Nikko into you head permanently.

Don't play blindly, work out your tone especially you're using Yamaha clarinets.

Like Hui Xian always emphasised on:

Figure 2: Phrase it. Don't accent or emphasise on first notes of each bar.

Semiquavers before figure 9: Everyone don't give up on the running notes! :D I know you run out of breath but must play!

Figure 9: Phrase the quavers, don't play like a thousand needles are poking the audiences on SYF day!

And watch your intonation on the quavers, few bars before 17.

Jia you everyone! Throw away all your time spent on computer games (or whatever) for the time being all the way till after Arts Fiesta! :D Good luck for upcoming CA2 :D (Anyone studied yet? LOL)

11 MORE DAYS TUHH SYF!!!

here to nag abit larhh,, urmm,, feast day the parts wat faith,,mr lim,, anchun they all sae derx please go and think about them.. sunrise,, please go back and memorise! running notes daring play out,, dunn hide,, so please go memorise.. not enough time le.. ii know most of you have CAs coming on,, but the sec4s have SA1,, and we are memorising also,, so just spend a few minutes to memorise,, just keep practicing and you can memorise le.. sec2s,, please go memorise,, no offence.. :X

memorise the 3 treasury of scales,, 15,19,69.. concert warm up & chorales B and D.. ii believe by now you all SHOULD know the scales le horr.. on SYF just don talk! i believe stop talking for half an hour wont die right? im sure you all wann tuhh get a good medal also.. we are the strongest batch now so must JIAYOU!! ii dunn wann the band or any of you to cry if we didnt get an ideal medal..*touch wood* we cann do it derx! is whether you want anot.. =]]

just do your best and ask yourself at S.C.H what you wann to hear..

To All CLARINETISTS please read !!!

Please note that for feast day in seville ,figure 9 play it like as though it is a song, think of ur favourite singer ,dont play it hard just play it beautifully as we are lady not man [woodwind+brasses]as told by anchun. For those who werent there during the sectional or have no idea what i was posting ...ask liyin, hui yi, yun han, eunice ,ziana or me.And dont neglect other parts as well practice with Mr Nikko everyday faithfully .FEEL THE MUSIC ~~
PLEASE ASK THEM AS SYF IS COMING!!! We have no time to waste and please dont think that it is none of your business ,IT IS EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS + A MUST FOR UR TO CARE!

GRABBED FROM BAND WEB

From the band web :

figure 2,4,9(quavers) melody must have a shape. we cannot have a note sticking out from the rest becuase of instrumental difficulty or a note going soft becuase its a low note. its musically awkard.

figure 2 people playing 1 quaver per bar must not play over the mf volume although its with a forzando. if we play too loud, we will have problems going to ff as the difference is much larger than wad we are playing now. show the difference between sf and no sf notes at 2 bars before 3.

figure 4 people playing 1 quaver per bar MUST look at mr lim['s conducting]. show the sf as stated on the score. everyone must do it equally, we cannot have the sax doing more than the euphos and overpowering the euphos.

4th bar of figure 5. SEMIQUAVERS MUST BE CLEAR AND EVEN! having a hole in the song is like.. the shape of a valcano. and sounds so like everyone colapse.

figure 12 trombones and clarinets must really listen out for each other to keep the interval withnin each section correct, and intonation with each other the same. clarinets should blend in abit more. the note F from baritone sax is usually sharp, try to use alternatives. horns must not sound muddy so that the fish can be seen.

well.. thats all.
and fall in at the atrium at 5:45 for night practice.practise hard everybody!
